Yes, I too lightly inflate the tube so that it assumes its shape. That helps keep it inside the rim, especially as you finish pushing the tire bead into the rim. Also, I lightly coat the tube with talcum powder to make it slippery so that it won't stick to the tire casing. I notice a lot less "popping" noises when I first inflate the tube.
