Bikes: Fuji Touring 64cm, Peugeot Canada PB-18 61cm and winter beaters

I just purchased a Shimano BB-UN53 bottom bracket. The drive-side square taper comes pre-greased with some kind of white grease, while the non-drive-side taper is ungreased. I wonder why only one side is greased?
