I more or less agree with Carpediem, but it really depends on the definition of competitive, and necessary. My racing bikes both weighed somewhere north of 17 lbs. My personal racing weight was around 190. A pound one way or the other relative to my power to weight ratio probably wouldn't have mattered at all. If you weigh 130, 2-3 lbs. starts to mean something, especially on repetetive climbs and/or accelerations. I was pretty damn lean at 190, that said, my coach was trying to get me down to 175-180.
Most of us could lose a lot more weight off of our own frames before worrying about a pound or two on your bike frame.
