For me, the answer is always that I have my weight too far forward. When I remember to keep my butt back, my wheel never slips. The answer may be different for you -- it may even be that you're putting down a ridiculous amount of power.

I agree. I don't put down a "ridiculous amount of power" but for short bursts I can hit 'er pretty danged hard...I'm quite sure this is a combination of my trying harder with flawed technique on these short hills and the pavement getting colder and more slippery at this time of year.
BTW - I was a 276 pound out of shape 44 year old...now I'm a 175-180 pound, fitter-than-I-ever-have-been-in-my-life (seriously) 45 year old. So, ok, maybe it is a ridiculous amount of power. Sounds good to me
