Another coaster brake thread, trust the LBS?
I live in Los Angeles and I see alot of craigslist ad for coaster brakes. I fixies but I love also love fakies. I'm planning to build a fakie bike for fun. Don't hate, don't flame.
So this guy down in long beach always over post on craigslist and gets flagged. I tried to contact him and ask some questions about his coaster brake wheels he build. You guys decide, should I trust him or not?
How long will it take to lace it up and get it running if I get the wheel/bike down to you? we have them pre built.. most wheels in stock at all times.....
After reading a lot of forums about coaster brakes, do you guys service them when they wear down? we never had a problem with them.. we service them.. at times, it just needs a whole new hub... SOMETIMES YOU JUST NEED A WHOLE NEW HUB WHEN YOU ALREADY ATE IT FROM OVER HEATING
What kind of grease do you guys, if any at all or factory stock grease? we use just wheel bearing grease.. we have some red bicycle grease also... WTF IS RED BICYCLE GREASE? DOES THAT EVEN DO ANYTHING?
Can you stand by the coaster brakes you sell? I actuall ride a bike with coaster brake wheels.. we have been selling them for almost 2 years...
never had a problem with them.. we sell on ebay, the dot net site and in the shop.....
I heard alot about velosteel, though rare, are you able to get them or have any at all? never heard of them so i would have to say no.. <--- LOL WTF?
I don't mind the hi-stops (that's all the have) you guys have but I'd like to know how fast can I go downhill on them as they get pretty hot? dont know how hot or if they do even get hot.. you can get the 30mm which has a braking surface so that you can use a front brake if you would like to do so..
.. OR IF THEY EVEN GET HOT??!?!
..
Would you recommend going downhill w/ the coaster brakes at all or use it sparingly? you can use the coaster brake for downhill..
coaster brakes have been around for years.. they are in beach cruisers or even bmx bikes..
This guy seems so shaddy, even though its an actual store. I think they carry the same as the new york city bikeshop guys. The same hubs/rims/wheels that people on the forums order.
My question is, if I get it, should I repack/build it using high temp car grease?
What do you guys think of this guy and his answers?
