My vote: not a necessity, but useful for maintaining optimum compatibility with locally sourced materials.
Haha, I was being enthusiastic. Communication error on my end. It was quite a spectacle, watching the topic go from a totally sweet bottle opener on a bike to a serious faced microbrew chat. It stands to reason that people informed and fussy enough to hang out on a cycling forum would know a lot about a lot of different sorts of things. It was cool.
