Are you sure the 'looseness' is not poorly adjusted cones?

thanks. well, i should have notice what came first...

but what are cones? i was wondering if there was some tension i needed to rePlace and widen the back, uh, 'fork'....

it was fine until i took it off and then put it on....it rode sort of fine, but shifting changed. the deviance is about 1/4 of an inch in the wheel wobble. i didn't really feel it in riding.

it's a 1990 Schwinn Caliente.
