I totally agree with you. I find it easier to ride 100 miles on my Lemond than to ride 50 miles on my mtn bike. Yes, I also have a Lemond, but it's a Nevada City. I purchased it back in 2003 thinking I would only ride a couple times a month. Now that I have 9000 miles on it, I will be upgrading the components on it next month.

Sorry to hear about your scratched frame and your partner's accident. If you read my earlier posts in this thread you'll know that I constantly come across unleashed dogs. I only hope that the owner of those two dogs showed some remorse and apologized for his/her ignorance.
