It's all in my head, but it has prevented me from going there.
Timing is everything. Consider what the worst times would be on that route and avoid riding during those times. Early/mid mornings going north (up) is always a good choice. Late afternoon on a weekend (when all the valley riff raff is through beachcombing) is bad.
