I'm a marine painter (among other hats and masks), so I deal with the hyper-toxic on a regular basis. Job number one is safety. I no longer spray anything without a supplied air rig. At the very least, you must have a NIOSH approved mask with activated carbon filters recommended for spray mist. You cannot have a beard. You must have some sort of an exhaust fan to get rid of the vapors and mist, and you want to be careful of having an ignition source. I know a non-sealed exhaust fan is an ignition source, but for projects this size, a continuously running fan will not allow an explosive atmosphere to be created. Wear latex gloves, too

You'll see a lot of young painters who ignore these warnings, but you won't see any old ones who do.

Don't recommend sand-blasting, but glass-beading works really well. Simplest is just to use paint remover. Use that mask for that, too, since you'll already have it.
