Because I can get to my destination much quicker. Like you said....."it's faster". Since that's a good enough reason for you, it's good enough for me.
PS - let's not talk about pollution, ok? You get about 17mpg on average in a car (on a good day) in NYC traffic. A motorized bike gets 150+ mpg. Stop wasting resources. Fuel doesn't automatically appear at gas station pumps after you stick in your credit card.
Another thing, being someone in NYC, I don't own snowblowers, lawn mowers or leaf blowers. Wait a minute....aren't those 2 stoke motors (where you mix fuel with 2 cycle oil)? Don't those pollute?
Being in NYC, I share an small shoe box with 3 other house mates. We share the cost of heat, water & utilities in a 500 sq ft apartment. My room is probably the size of your walk in closet. I recycle (it's the law). I know you folks in MD aren't required to. Not 100% certain about MoCo, but I know Howard County do not require recycling. I've lived in Ellicott City, Laurel and Joppatowne for a few years.
So, here you are heating/cooling a 2,500 sq ft home and you're talking to me about wasting resources? How much are your monthly heating/cooling bills? How many miles do you put on your car annually? I have about 4,500 miles on my car this year (and that's because I took a road trip down to FL). I commute 6 days a week on bike.
Don't lecture me on pollution while you're using resources in a year that would easily last me 3 years.
