Well you're kind of right, and like Dave, you're missing the concepts of right/wrong as well as the future implications of your actions/inactions. And I do fully respect anyones right to decide that their momentary pleasures are paramount, and that no thoughts of others or the future should be considered. But in this case I admit to being angered at first but decided to call the police out of concerns of what could happen to others in the future. By the time I made the call my anger at what happened to me was long gone with the realization that I had just been in the wrong place at the wrong time then.

I realize the fact that the incident I describe being located on a section of a street that is between a grade school and a public park is not important to those that are only concerned with their momentary pleasure(s), but I think that most of us would agree that doing something that would reduce the chances of a child getting hurt while bicycling there in the future is worth doing. And I realize that I omitted the fact that the park in question is the location of the kids bike helmet give-a-way I've organized and ran for the last 9 years and that some may not draw any connection with the site for bicycling advocacy for kids and what happened earlier, but I would have felt even worse if this same driver came back and hit someone else's child because I didn't do anything.

It is my "consideration of others" that compels me to offer my "thoughtful" advice.

I'd be happy to think I am consistently "correct" even once a day.

Where did I post that I was (or am ever) unarmed?!?!?

As children many of us played the game of avoiding "stepping on a crack... that would break our mothers back"
. Of course we all grow up and our imaginations are beaten down by adult pragmatic and logical thought processes.

But that doesn't mean many of us can't still rationalize just about any action into something acceptable. Your actions, the police's actions, the courts actions.... do NOT control the actions of others. All drivers have free will to be total butt-hats... and no body can change that.

It is fine with me if you wish to report every legal (or imaginary) traffic infraction you might see (or think you see).... everyday for the rest of your life. But it will jade your view of cycling and it will ruin your rides. After that happens... you may want to think about why you did that to yourself.
