You have done no wrong. You may be breaking the law which puts you at more risk of being sued if you ever hit a pedestrian. There are places I ride sidewalks with zero chance of bothering anyone but the most stringent rule book thumpers. Sounds like you are a considerate person, you know you are a guest on any sidewalk, use due diligence, and you should be fine.

ps. It is legal in Taipei, even with THRONGS of pedestrians.
