I wonder if I can get 95 to bet me on when the AB's will take over regular bikes on our roads.

Thanks for posting CB.

How will self-driving bikes affect LCF? Will cyclists be safer when more bikes are self-driving?

Is it all a plot by Google?

Really!

Those guys at Google are downright amazing; given these developments, making self driving cars that will turn the transportation world into a tizzy should be a snap by April 1st.

Well, next thing you know, someone will invent a bike that shifts gears all by itself.

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

April Fool's day comes but once a year, but apparently stuff like this can enjoy a much higher frequency.

Regardless that it came out 22 months ago, I did not see it in BFs, maybe I missed it or maybe it was never posted.

At any rate, A&S needed a fun thread about now and this video just seemed good right now with 2 or 3 self-driving car threads running at the top of A&S for sooooo long.

The self-driving car thing has turned into the new 'helmet saved my life' thread.

It does share the phenomenon of True Believers proselytizing the unwashed with their zealotry.

Too late. Back when I bought my first mountain bike in 1990, I think it was, there was an optional "automatic shifter" that attached to the back of the bike and the rear derailleur somehow, and automatically shifted into a lower gear when it got harder to pedal, and into a higher gear when you spun the front crank too fast. I thought it was superfluous, and I think I was right since it's not hard to manually shift gears on a bike. It likely would have added a bunch of unneeded weight.

Think of how many times you have anticipated and performed a down shift just before beginning a climb; especially mountain biking. "Automatic shifter" is just one more fail in my view.

Not only that, all the downshifts while coasting to a stop sign. I think at this point I never even think about it, I just do it automatically.

It's been a long time since I saw that device, but IIRC it operated completely mechanically somehow, no electronics or anything like the device on the link above.

Or do some crazy PR stunt like launching an automobile into space.

Oh wait...

Pretty much the same reason they're a fail in cars. Though at least on bikes, automatic shifting is somewhat less likely to encourage habits as bad as it has in cars; I've yet to see anyone eating with both frickin' hands while riding a bike in city traffic.

But if it did not make BFs, it was not a very successful April Fools thing.

So one link was a year after the video.
Another link had all of ONE post and that was the OP.

Did you read all 4 of those links when the actually came out? Just curious.

How about those who don't care either way?

But I do agree that there's no harm in posting something new to you, even if it's old to everybody else. A good example of no harm, no foul.
