Hit & Run New Year UK
A 17-year-old girl has been arrested after a hit-and-run accident in which a cyclist was killed.
The man died after being struck by a car which carried him for some distance before hitting a tree on Bempton Lane, Bridlington late on Monday night.
The car then drove off, leaving the cyclist, who died at the scene from head injuries, Humberside Police said. A car was later found in Bridlington.
The girl is being held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The scene of the crash has been cordoned off to allow accident investigators to continue their work and forensic experts are examining the recovered vehicle, a black Nissan Sunny.
Police are also carrying out house to house inquiries in an attempt to identify the cyclist, who is described as a clean shaven white man with short brown hair, aged 20 to 30 and 5'10'' tall.
He was wearing a high visibility jacket, blue jeans and brown Hawkshead shoes and carried a bunch of keys, among which was an older style Rover ignition key.
Rather niavely I was hoping we might make it more than two days into the year without a fatality.
