I liked the line from one of the reports: "The owner of the one-time bike ..."

I'm glad the charges were dropped.

the latest

this just in... athens university is going to pay patrick hanlin (sp?) an amount in between the original price and the price of a new, similar bike. the highest estimates are at 1300 dollars. i wish the cops would have done it instead, but it's still pretty cool, i thought. it was a pretty nice cannondale road bike he had ridden across the u.s. twice upon.

CNN had pics of it, but they were taken down.

A few years ago in Spain, ETA, a terrorist group killed a general with a bomb hidden in a bycicle.

I go to OU and I have to tell you that I was really hoping this dude would sue the university. He was there telling them that it was a band, and he was actually on his way back from church to pick up the bike!!!

The band 'This Bike is a Pipe Bomb' actually played in a church here in Minneapolis!
Good times.

Let's not forget the Swedish punk band E.T.A. Abreviation for Epileptic Terror Attack. Their more into worshipin' Skatin' than anything else.

Don't worry about it.

50 years from now, there will be these adhesive glowing textsigns that advertise the band "This Florb-Drive Is A Denewtonizer."

A little out of touch there. Maybe they should try googling the phrase first. We have the same stupid things on the ferry system here. Someone reports they heard someone say something about a bomb, so they stop the ferry and spend two hours going over the ferry looking for something that was never there. We have military ships coming in with two military gunships running along side, what? If a miltary ship can't protect itself in the Puget Sound it shouldn't be going to war.

What makes you so certain that the two gunships are protecting the other ships?
Perhaps the two smaller ships were the harbormaster *******.

this seems like a great end for a batch of department store bikes. Or "bike like objects."

The smaller boats can run interference and determine if someone acting stupidly when told to get away is really a threat. Would you rather the Gunner's Mates obliterate a boat with an inebriated or stupid skipper with a 50 caliber machine gun?

I wonder what the general consensus would be if authorities had a chance to stop something and didn't?

More bored bureaucrats over-reacting. Had the bike been jam-packed with explosives, in its location it still would not have been necessary to close the entire terminal.

Nevertheless, after hearing a few seconds of it ... that band is not worth getting arrested for. I wonder if the bike owner was crazy enough to go back asking for his bike? How else would anyone know?

When bumper stickers for the band "This SUV is a car-bomb" start appearing on the back of vehicles, will authorities be as hasty in their assumptions?

I'm going on very poor recollection of this incident as reported in the paper, but I seem to recall an incident, locally, wherein a "suspicious" vehicle parked at a gas station containted a "suspicious" spray can on the back seat. The car was systematically demolished by bomb crews only to find out that it was a can of paint without the label - something to that extent.
