Yes! Yes! YES!

Okay, if you remember, I was going to an ALDOT meeting about the future of a certain stretch of road that I happen to use every day. Well, they already had the plans laid out on the table. It's going from two lanes and no shoulder to five lanes and eight feet of paved shoulder and better access to the greenway. YES! Only one problem, scheduled start time of construction was 2012, WTF? Well, I get word today that our Senator found 2012 start time to be unacceptable and successfully lobbied Governor Bob Riley. Contruction starts in 2007, f*ckin' A!!! YES YES YES! Every afternoon this road backs way up from a certain intersection on back. This will not only reduce driving stress, but will also give me a nice shoulder to ride on.

falkon,
sounds real good!
what is the cities plan for the area? here in s nj, the cities, dot, etc did the same, widened a stretch of road as you have mentioned, THEN, the circut city, target, shop/rite(food), tires are us, took major amount of wooded area (extended the mall).
the widened road is easier to travel through (with "bike lanes" that are +/- 24inches wide), still an improvement!
look at you cities "master plan" for that area again!

I know the future plan involves some apartments going up later. Then the greenway will be extended a few miles. The road gets a turn lane and two extra lanes, a wide shoulder instead of no shoulder and a ditch, raised bridge for the greenway, and a reasonable starting time.

2012 was rediculous. The widening of that narrow section has been on the board for 10 years. I am looking forward to seeing many more bike commuters as well.
