I guess I have a hard time seeing that a mouth guard would stay in long enough to actually help with concussion prevention. Before commenting, yes, I have worn one for other things so I know how they fit. The time I took a header off my bike (screwed up quick-release front hub quick released at full speed) I had time to say at least one unpleasant word as I saw the road heading toward my unhelmeted (no longer the case) head, which would have tossed a mouth guard anyway.

Considering the odds of a mouthguard saving me from a concussion from a bicycle crash, I would not wear one while bicycling.
However, I always wore a mouthguard while playing hockey, and thankfully have all my teeth intact. If it makes you feel safer, by all means wear one. It's your business, and you'll get no argument from me. |
Aren't you the dude who wears his helmet when he is up in the attic?

Remember when White House spokesman Trent Duffy claimed Bush was wearing wearing a mouth guard when he had his face plant a couple of years ago?

I'm thinking muzzles might be more appropriate.

Actually, this isn't a bad idea. I used to grind my teeth as I sleep and use a biteguard at night
to keep the teeth intact. I was mountain biking recently and had a hard descent and apparently gnashed my teeth together really hard while it happened, hurt like hell for a few days and was back to normal but if you're on seriously nasty trails a biteguard might work for you. |

Mouthguard while riding.. depends on where/how you ride though in my opinion. |
