New Llano, LA to Ban Bicycles

Heard this on this week's FredCast:

Bottom line is the town of New Llano has had a problem with vandalism in their park.
To prevent further incidents they are going to ban bikes, skate boards, and rollerblades in the entire town.

There will be a town meeting on the 29th of September to discuss the ordinance.

I am thinking this is a very poorly written article, and that there is more to it.

"They" in this case allegedly is one person proposing this ordinance as a method to solve this problem . "They" make over-the-top proposals all the time for all kinds of ordinances everywhere. Almost always the nutty ones get tossed and never passed.

Exactly. But it will whip up the cycling advocates into a frenzy* and result in much back patting once this proposal fades with no change in the laws.

*Not that this is a bad thing, it can help build the local cycling advocacy community, fine locally, but a bit silly internetionally
