I ride very assertively. When I have had vehicles behind me, on a two-lane blacktop, honking their horns and, there is a double-yellow line, I will not let them pass. If they try to, I move to where, they can't pass, between the middle and, left side of the lane. The state law says I am supposed to follow all the traffic laws, since my bike is considered a 'vehicle'. I know I am not supposed to impede the normal flow of traffic, but no where in the state law does it say, a motorist can pass a cyclist on a double-yellow line.

On a multilane road with narrow lane, ride in the middle of the right lane.

In my city 70% of cyclists use the sidewalk, remaining 30% hug the curb/ white line. If this is the right way to ride ( which I think it is ), how come nobody does it?
I do.

But catch a lot of Cager flack for it.
F 'em, I say.

I am assuming that all of us "assertive" cyclists are making gestures (not the obscene ones ), using mirrors, and turning our heads to make eye contact (or at least 'facing' closing vehicles not moving over on a narrow lane.

I don't want to come off as an oblivious azzhole to motorists, I want to make them know that I know they're there, and that I'm holding my line, and they can either drift over to the passing lane (if present), or be patient, until I think it's safe for me to give up the lane.

According to the traffic act in the province where I live, cyclists must ride as far to the right as practicable. Not down the middle of the lane.

Check your laws.
the law is very vague and the cyclist can interpret it however he/she wants to. My interpretation is the right tire track is as far right as practicable. Others might give more room, but people can pass me as they would a slow car through traffic, in the other lane...

Don't even waste your time with Machka's post. You'd think she never heard of laws differing by state with his sound bite ultimatum.

Nope. All white or black.

Most of the diplomats around here aren't too bad. They used to be,but back in the 90's,a Georgian diplomat killed a passenger in another car in a drunk driving incident. They sent him home, but the locals went apeshinzt and protested. The State Dept convinced them to pull his immunity and bring him back, and he wound up doing jail time. They straightened up a bit after that. I've only had two close calls with cars w/diplomatic plates since I got back in '05.

Yeah and it annoys me cause instead of just going on green watching for all hazards I end up focusing on the idiot running the light and hesitating to keep some distance. They could have had the courtesy to run it after me. I have no issue with light runners if they do it with respect and style. That was just sloppy.

Check the law again.

40-6-294 Operating upon a roadway - bicycle paths.

(a) Every person operating a bicycle upon a roadway shall ride as near to the right side of the roadway as practicable, except when turning left or avoiding hazards to safe cycling, when the lane is too narrow to share safely with a motor vehicle, when traveling at the same speed as traffic, or while exercising due care when passing a standing vehicle or one proceeding in the same direction; provided, however, that every person operating a bicycle away from the right side of the roadway shall exercise reasonable care and shall give due consideration to the other applicable rules of the road. As used in this subsection, the term "hazards to safe cycling" includes, but is not limited to, surface debris, rough pavement, drain grates which are parallel to the side of the roadway, parked or stopped vehicles, potentially opening car doors, or any other objects which threaten the safety of a person operating a bicycle.
