The lack of efficiency argument is just as applicable to cars... especially the way people drive - usually accelerating like mad, then heaving on the brakes at the last second. Part of the benefit, and often the reason, for riding a bike is the excercise gained. So what if you have to lose momentum and start again? Its not such a big deal, and you get a little extra burst of effort. Everyone wants to travel uninterrupted until they get there, but you just can't have that anyway. Frustrating? Yes, big deal? No. ...but I still hate most stop signs, just for being there.

Lights double my drive to work, of course riding a bike to work would take 6 times as long if I could keep a decent pace.
Really it isn't till near the point of exhaustion does stopping really bother me on my bike though, I kick it, get a sip of water, check out the intersection, any neat cars that may be around me, stretch my arms a little, etc.
