Also why do you think by doing the following you are not doing anything unsafe, the drivers won't be pissed off when they see you do these illegal things, well think oh good this rider is not inconsiderate and is a safe rider and by doing these illegal things you are not making it unpleasant for the next rider that the driver see.

"If there are no cars at a stop sign and I can see clearly, I'll coast through it. Instead of going through a left turn at a busy intersection, I'll often cut over onto the left-side sidewalk and go around the corner on it, then cut back across when the road is clear".
Well... you got me. I guess I feel that their cycling is MORE unsafe and MORE inconsiderate than mine, particularly not riding with lights and safe brakes. I'm not particularly worried about the legal/illegal part, I have to say, because I don't think it is always well matched up with what is safe or not safe.

Well someone has to especially to point out the truth such as you think it is okay to do something illegal and unsafe when you complain someone else is doing something illegal.

But then again are you going to blame yourself or others when you get into trouble for doing something unsafe and illegal?

Well, you're certainly right. But I certainly do take responsibility for my own actions. As I said, for me it's kind of a judgment call. I think I've thought about what kinds of things are unsafe or inconsiderate for other users of the road, and I don't do those things on my bike. I don't run lights, I use the shoulder where it's safe to do so, I use lights when I ride at night.

Lights maybe required in Maryland but helmets aren't and droppy chains aren't illegal either. Moxfire was pointing out how goofy the CM riders are and I've seen the same kind of things. Still they have a right to ride. Obeying traffic laws while cycling sounds even goofier to me. Observe right of way, be safe, ride on!

I know helmets aren't required but it seems like if your group advocates using bikes for transportation on busy roads, you ought to encourage members to wear one.

Having a droopy chain with a coaster brake is really dangerous. When you want to brake, you pedal backwards. If the chain is droopy, the brake won't engage until the slack is taken up. As a result, this guy's feet looked like they were gonna slip off the pedals once when he tried to brake.
