Jaguar Drivers

So I passed a cyclist on the road this morning, and in my rear view I could see a Jaguar coming up on the cyclist. The Jaguar moves his wheels over into the bike lane and passes the cyclist just about as close as he/she could without contact.

Do you have to be a special kind of asshat to drive a Jaguar?

eja_ bottecchia 09-13-12 07:58 AM

Really? You are going to generalize based soley on the actions of one driver?

How about all the asshats driving white Ford trucks? Or Chrysler minivans? Or GM land yatchs?

Or do you just dislike people driving expensive cars?

You saw ONE Jaguar do this?

Sure, works for me.

dynodonn 09-13-12 08:12 AM

I have plenty of videos of motorists driving behind me in the bike lane, I'm not sure if it's always deliberate act on their part, but they always have moved back out of the bike lane, save one, and into the adjacent travel lane at the last second. While these incidents are taking place, I'm giving them my utmost scrutiny in my rear view mirror.

Chief 09-13-12 08:20 AM

And did you bother to report this dangerous, illegal harassment of a cyclist? Or do Jaguar drivers get a pass on their bad behavior?

unterhausen 09-13-12 08:25 AM

probably target fixation?

If the OP received a close pass as well, then the possibility of this motorist's action as being considered as harassing cyclists might be a strong one, otherwise this incident would be categorized as a careless drift on the motorist's part by law enforcement, plus being an extremely fortunate one for the cyclist in question.

Add in the fact that the OP probably doesn't have any other description of the vehicle other than make and color, which is not much for law enforcement to go on.

OP, I'm sure if you go on YouTube and search for [whatever car you are driving] asshat (or similar) you'll come up with lots of hits. :p

Was the jag an older Mark 2? It could have been that he moved over to converse with the tweedy gent on the Humber.

you should have reported the driver to the police. seriously.

Monster Pete 09-13-12 01:31 PM

I work for Jaguar. Some people are just complete morons, but not everyone. Some cyclists are also idiots, but not everyone.

350htrr 09-13-12 01:59 PM

Seems like the people driving those ram 1500 pickups do the same thing to me all the time, er lots of times... Well OK, more often than any other type of vehicle drivers out there... :p

I see jerks in all kinds of cars, and decent people too.

Award for the most ignorant thread of the day.

PedalingFool 09-13-12 04:58 PM

Soccer moms in SUV's!!!
How's that for generalization? :)

v0_boulder 09-13-12 05:10 PM

Volunteer fire fighters (Not on a call no lights or sirens) pass really close and extremely fast go figure :S

Oooh! Oooh! Can I play too?

I saw a cyclist blow through a red light without stopping the other day. Someone going through on green had to brake hard to avoid an accident.

Do you have to be a special kind of asshat to ride a bicycle?

OOH, OOH. I can top that!

I saw a cyclist ride through a red light without stopping the other day. Nobody else was going through at that time and NOBODY had to brake hard to avoid an accident, BUT some asshat BF posters would whine about the cyclist anyhow.

I like that post, I hate stopping waiting for the light I feel like I am more of a target anyway, if no one is around and it is safe to proceed I do so. Imagine being on your bike and some 5000 lb death machine rolls over you because you were standing around waiting for a light. I like to keep the pedals turning unless I crash, like the other day.

Wow, do you have that many SUVs running red lights?

I will roll through stop signs after making sure it's safe, but I will always wait at red lights. It gives me a nice rest and if any cars come up to the intersection, I help improve their opinion of cyclists on the road.
