Just wondering if I"m the only one who does this?
I have San Francisco hills (because it reminds me of the ups and downs of san francisco ~ where I used to live).
Duck and cover down town (traffic)
All out road (nice flat smooth section where I can pick up speed)
The Valley of death (fast down hill in, extremely hot and pot holed, and also a humungous climb out).
Any one else?

I have only one section of my commute. Five miles of death defying sweat.

I never consciously gave them names, but I thought of two sections of my old commute as The Really Scary Part (where I left the office, climbing a steep hill distinguished by three criss-crossing lanes of traffic, one leading to a freeway ramp--sometimes I'd chicken out and walk that part); and The Smelly Part (right past a sewage treatment plant--with a different smell every day, I swear).
There was also a long stretch through an industrial wasteland that could have been called The Boring Part.

I've got the dreaded Tea-house bend hill, OK on my road bike, but with the commuter loaded down it makes me break a sweat. Then there's the Hole #9 bend, where it goes past the golf course, the marsh straightaway, etc. Just makes the ride a little more interesting.

My ride home starts out heading downhill until it bottoms out in the Red Arroyo - one of the lowest points in town. I think of it as Death Valley because it's a narrow, winding road with no shoulders, plenty of potholes, and "jiggle bars". A jiggle bar is not what you're thinking - it's sort of like a 3 foot wide speed bump made out of those big white reflectors that are glued to the asphalt to mark traffic lanes. They're a minor inconvenience to an SUV driver, and a major road hazard to me.
From there on, it's uphill to home. All the streets near my house have names like College Hills and Crestview and Oak Mountain, I live on Valleyview. Sometimes just seeing the street signs makes me want to downshift a click or two. I never noticed how hilly this town is until I started riding a bicycle around it.
Ummmm, what was the question again?
