My Bianchi Nyala is labled as having the Bianchi Exclusive Superset II with Superlug Construction. I am curious as to what Superset II is, and if it was used on other models, I am also curious as to the purported benefits of the "Superlugs," if there were any. The bike in question is a 1996 model, but it has the paint color of a 1995, but as far as I can tell, in 1995 they were made with actual lugs, and not superlugs...

Most all Bianchis employed a SuperSet frame design from sometime in the mid '80s. the Superset frame utilizes a heaver guage DT and chainstays for a stiffer BB for better accelerating and climbing. SuperSet II design was from about '91 on, the main feture being the DT was no oversized and ovalized at the BB.

SuperLuggs were a different approach to the same idea. a 1/2 lug was employed and brazed to the tubes then tigged to the HT and ST. the idea being it made a better than joint with a lighter tube than just tig welding. the points on the side are again to add lateral stiffness to the frame but still give a comfy ride.

I see, The downtube is ovalized... So because of the "superlugs," my bike is essentially triple butted. Sweet. Thanks for the quick reply Bianchigirl.
