1 1/8? 1 1/4? 1?
I only have one choice here, but I'll be in the US come summer, and would like to buy some Vittorias to bring back.

I ride whatever I have, but if I were ordering a pair, I'd go for the fattest ones that'll fit under my fenders.

ST400 has 1 1/4" Gatorskins that barely fit under the fenders. Commuter bike. Fat, tough tires are good.
Wife's Traveler has 1 1/8" Zaffiros
Trek Elance has 1" Pasela TGs

Depends on the bike and usage I suppose....

How are the roads down in Merida? I think you'd be happy with the Pasela Tour Guard tires. 1 1/4 or 1 1/8 inch.

1 1/4 (32-630) Michelin World Tour -- for streets and roads

If I were going off road at all, I'd probably try something fatter, and maybe knobbier, like the Tioga Bloodhound at 1 3/8.

Specialized "Armadillo" 27x1 1/4". They look really Thin. And at 120 Psi they roll great.

I only have two 27" wheelsets. One being narrow Ambrosio rims requiring 1" tires, the other being retired Mavic Module 3 rim of 20mm width. I've ran 1-1/4 and 1-/8 on those. Being that I'm becoming an old fart, those 1" tires are only good for racing and smooth roads, and they've fallen out of favor. I found 1-1/8 to be a great compromise, better ride, low resistance, less pinch flats. If not touring, I recommend these. 1-1/4 for fully loaded touring, heavy rider, and/or poor road conditions.
I like Panaracer tires, hard to beat for the money.

Nashbar does take Bill Me Later, which is a PayPal business.

I've had great luck with the Vittoria Zaffiros, 27 X 1 & 1/8 as a lower mid range tire. Continental Gatorskins are my favorite pricey tire as they last and last. The Panaracers are nice, but I find the tread wears faster than these other two brands.
