I was very tempted by the rubber block pedals. I even found some in different colours that would have looked fantastic on the bike and matched the off-white colour of my tyres. Unfortunately the ground is often damp here in the UK so my shoes may have skipped a little too much on the rubber blocks.

I recently upgraded to metal framed, rubber block pedals, Taz. The feel is much better than the plastic ones. On a set of plastic pedals I used an road tube to rig up a clip-less style pedal. I just stretch the tubing, slip my feet in, and spin in circles. I'm not ready to deface the classic rubber block pedals, though.

For $7.99 Nashbar has 1/2 in thread caged all purpose mountain bike pedal. Since I'm used to this style of pedals on mountain bikes, its what I went with. NS-CGP12 is the item number. Pretty lightweight at 334g.

Bikes: Does a Big Wheel count ?

Well, since we're here......
Back in the day, I used to run the basic,all-metal Wellgo platform pedals, that cost all of $25 or so. Never had a problem with them, and would've gotten another set last year (for my road warrior mountain bike), but I ended up trying the very popular Race Face Chesters, and am really digging them so far. I think they ran me something like $40 delivered.

That all depends on the situation at hand,...and sarcasm is often misunderstood on the internet.
