Ultegra 6800 Shift Lever Worn Out ....
(Cross-post from here...
)
After 5500 miles?
I've been dropping shifts recently. Started a few weeks ago, with the snapping of a cable, replaced that and curiously, seems to be an issue shifting down into the 19 tooth cog, and up from it...(11-28 SRAM cassette) more on the downshift, it takes two taps of the lever to get it on the cog. Cable tension is good, derailleur limits are set fine...Swapped out the housing as well. New chain & cassette fyi...
5500 miles seems awfully premature to have worn out a lever. Not happy. Anyone with similar experience?
Bad idea according to the local mechanics.
It is slightly bent, and that is because when this issue first started showing up what was happening is I'd go to downshift in anticipation of a slope, it wouldn't happen until too much torque was on the chain. So yeah, a slightly bent hanger is in the equation, I told them to throw a new one on. Nevertheless, it is a new hanger because I ripped my derailleur off a few weeks ago in the woods.
Yeah, I'll cross post, thx.
That's the next step. I need to embrace the N+1 though.

Fix what you know/suspect is wrong before proceeding with troubleshooting. New hangers are not always straight and the frame where it mounts may be slightly bent as well. So have the hanger aligned before you go further.

Yeah...seems the general consensus is it's the hanger. Shifts through all the other cogs flawlessly so the whole "worn out lever," excuse wasn't making any sense to me.

Why? when if the shifter is the issue, it's covered under warranty!
For the 6800, this is the latest, so all shops should be able to get it, for parts/repair, when out of warranty, the TechDocs can be looked at to see what parts are user serviceable, this goes for all major manufactuers.

I bought the STIs & Derailleurs last March. So, 13 months use, 5K miles. Should last longer than that I'd think. Anyhow...one step at a time. New Hanger first, the RD is a bit sloppy but we'll see after the hanger is replaced. If I can live with it until the season is over I'll warranty them in the Winter.

If it started with replacing the cable, start with that. Make sure that cable friction isn't the problem. Shimano 11 speed cables have a low friction coating to improve shifting

I'd only suspect the shift mechanism if IT was behaving badly. You describe the performance when shifting only particular cogs. It shifts above and below okay so that suggests that the shifter works.
I'd go back to that event in the woods, figuratively speaking. Is it possible that the rear dérailleur housing loop is messed up? I read that you'd replaced the housings but does that include the dérailleur? Those are usually supplied with the dérailleur.
