Working with a 2008 Jamis Trail X 1.0 frame(Wanting to build it up)

So long story short I got the bike when I was 16, rode it for a while, then left it outside to rot for 6 years. Now I want to build it up and ride with it often. I had no real interests in bicycles when I was 16 but now I want to learn everything that I can mechanic-wise so I can build it up better than it ever was.

So I know very little when it comes to bikes. I know some component groups and I can identify what are generally better components over lesser ones. The Jamis came with Shimano Tourney rear derailleur and Shimano TZ30 front derailleur with Shimano Acera shifters. Unfortunately, all of the components were f**ked and so I had to trash everything save the frame and fork. The fork is an SR2000. I want to get Shimano XT to have on the bike. But I don't know what models would be suitable for the frame and I also don't know what fork to get as I want a much better hydraulic system.

Granted, maybe building it up is more expensive than just getting a new bike, and so I am not sure what to do. I would love some advise.

You have a $350 in 2008 bike which is stripped to frame to build up. A lot has changed in the interim so cost effectiveness
suggests you look for newer bike on Craigslist or ebay. Just a hydraulic shok is going to cost half of what a newer used
bike would run. DFW area is pretty flat so a triple is a bit overkill. ATB bikes were originally designed for California
trails hence the ultralow gearing which is redundant in central Texas, especially at your age. You could probably find
a suitable NOS groupset a few years old for $300 or so, but you still need wheels and a fork, just doesn't make sense.
