Brifter with the shortest throw?

Ok, I admit I don't get chance to test tide newer bikes very often. I don't have a bike with brake-shifter combo right now. I only had a chance to test ride a bike with Campagnolo brifters. I think they were the bottom of the line, and had a very spongy responce. I hear people talking about how snappy the rapid fire type montain bike shifters are, compare to road bike brifters. All the brifters feel the same? Given optimal adjustment, one is different from others? If so, which model has the snappiest and shortest throw of all?
