Crank issues
Hi
Attempting to fix up my first bike, dismantling an old Viking and restoring it.
Reached my first nemesis, I cannot get the crank set off. Not working out like the modern day youtube crank set removals!!
An advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Looks like it had a cotter pin that was removed ??
If so, it should slide off the axle, but rust may be the problem. With the other crank arm held rigid, can you work them against each other to get some movement ?
Penetrating oil ?

If there's no evidence of a wedge (cotter) pin having been present (a hole through the arm's base) then you might have a Thompson crank. The RH arm is "fused" to the spindle. It won't come off. Instead you remove the spindle from the BB from the HR side to access the bearings. The LH side would be much like any common cottered crank. But with only the one photo we can't really say. Andy.
I see that the OP was able to remove the arm. Good!
