Poor Braking on New Sram Force Build...

hi all,
I just had a bike built and have around 600-700 miles on it. It's a sram force 22 build. I have fulcrum zero rims. My old bike had the old version of sram force and fulcrum 1 rims. It seems on the new bike if I'm going down a steep descent, I get pretty bad howling on the front rim and overall pretty poor braking in general. The new bike has sram shoes on it. I'm wondering if I glazed them already? I've read about taking some sand paper to them which I will do before this weekends ride to see if that helps. But i'm doing a gran fondo the following weekend with some very steep descents and am wondering if the bike pros out there have any advice.

Different pads perhaps? what do people like? I tried to research the sram pads, it doesn't seem like there are many complaints out there.

thoughts? let me know if you need more information.

thanks in advance!
Mark

You expect 'put a stick in the spokes' braking? with a dainty grip?

In General I Like Kool Stop pads , Rim and Disc.

https://www.sram.com/sram/road/produ...nical-brakeset

looks like the Dura 2 Kool Stop International - High Performance Bicycle Brake Pads Since 1977 insert will slip right in.

Howling and poor performance make me think toe-in. Are your pads properly toe'd and aligned?

Long story, but my original bike was ripped off while at a bike shop for a shifter repair, and they ended up building me a nice replacement. My assumption is the pads would have been set properly, but then again, towards the end it was become hard for me to get my bike. So maybe it was overlooked.

Looks like there is information online in how to check alignment, I will check tonight. Thanks for the tip.

I run SRAM Force with black Kools on my Curtlo and it stops just fine.

Of course, I know how to align and toe in the pads...
