Shimano chainring compatibility
A friend is looking to replace the chainrings on a Dura Ace 7400 crankset. I found him a source for a NOS 130mm Shimano Dura Ace 52 tooth chainring, Model 7402, which is apparently "great for 9 speed", according to the ad.
He has a 7 cog cassette, & is wondering if this chainring will work with his current setup. It seems to me that it shouldn't be a problem, but I thought I better ask around before I tell him it's okay.
Any informed opinions out there?
Thanks.

I thought 7402 was a native 8s group and suspect the "great for 9 speed" line is just the seller trying to assure people that his old stuff isn't obsolete.
