I'm interested in the Shimano Flight Deck cyclocomputer. The system is compatible with my Shimano 105 levers. I understand only the 5500C levers give access to all the Fligh Deck's features. Is there a way to distinguish the 5500C from the 5500 when the levers are mounted? I'd also appreciate hearing informed comments on the Flight Deck system. Thanks!

Re: Flight Deck Compatability
Thought I'd share what I've learned about compatibility between the Shimano Flight Deck and the company's 105 levers. The 5500C levers, which are fully compatible with the Flight Deck cyclocomputer are marked "FLIGHT DECK" on the front of the levers themselves. They also have button nubs on the center facing aspects of the hoods. The 5500 levers, which are partailly compatible with the system (according to Shimano) do NOT have "FLIGHT DECK" on them.

Teamfred,
If your levers are FlightDeck compatible. Esy to tell. You should see buttons on at least one lever.
Any shop can sell you the computer. Where it is tricky is some shops bundle the whole thing, while other charge for the head and then the mount. You need to make sure you get the correct mount for your levers. Simply tell the model you have of levers to the place where you are buying. If they know anything they will send you the right set up.

You're right and employers will ask you to sign a document during the interview to access your credit history. If you fail to sign the document, they will never hire you! It's sad but I suspect you would have to change names and social security number several times to confuse the computers.

What planet are your from ??...I never ever had any employer ask me about my credit history. The only places which check my credit history are banks when applying for a loan, mortage, or credit card. Also many landlords check the persons credit history before allowing them to rent.
FYI: Every employer I've had since 2000 has run a full background check, which includes a check of credit history. That's on Earth, of course. I haven't heard back from any extra-planetary employers, so I can't really speak to their hiring practices.

How on earth did this discussion get spliced into an old thread about Flight Deck compatibility?

The way to tell for sure is to look at the inside edge of the brifters under the rubber hood. Flight Deck brifters will have a little screw in cover that must be removed to mount the computer connections. You also have to have the correct hoods to match your computer. The earliest models had two buttons on the right lever, later versions had one button on each lever.
The thing that makes Flight Deck computers different is that it displays the gear combination that you are in. Since it knows how fast you are going and it knows what gear you are in, it also provides a "virtual cadence" how fast you must be pedaling if you're not coasting.
Flight Deck computers are great for tandems because the captain can see what gear he's in. Also, when coasting down a hill, he can monitor the virtual cadence so he knows when to start pedaling again. Neither of those functions matters as much to me on a single bike.
If you're still interested in Flight Deck, PM me because I've got a collection of NIB Flight Deck stuff.

Sure ... Record the 45 on your Reel To Reel tape deck , then take that section of tape
and wind it into the 8 track cartridge and splice the ends together ..
Old Radio station Gig, thats how they made their Station Promotions ..
Cued up to use again because it's a Tape Loop.
of course the 8 track cartridges they Bought were not Glued shut
you could re use them, and just discard the length of tape itself..
