Hub rebuild question
I picked up a set of Shimano Tricolor hubs for a 650b project. I needed to change the freehub from a Unidrive to Hyperdrive. I noticed that when I reinstalled the bearings,in the rear hub, that to install 9 bearings it was a tight fit. So I am wondering if I could possibly have the wrong diameter bearing?

All the Uniglide freehub bodies I've rebuilt have used 9 x 1/4" balls, also same with Hyperdrive ones. However the cone length can change to maintain the same OLD. Andy

Maybe. What size did you purchase and what size is required?

What I did was to find an old freehub at the shop, clean it up and lube it. I did use the cone from the old one so it matched the freehub. On the ND side O used the cone that came with the hub. Maybe I should have used new ball bearings?

Not all DS cones are the same.
Since the FH has 1 "side" of the bearing race, the cone must match that FH.

9 1/4" bearings per side, I guarantee it.
I bet your problem is that your drive-side cone doesn't play well with the new freehub body. These days whenever I do a body replacement I try to pull the new body from a donor hub so I get the correct cone/locknut to go with the body.

The drive side cone came from the donor freehub.
