Attaching Rohloff bayonet link

Last summer I replaced the gear mech cable in my Rohloff Speedhub, and it works great except that the male bayonet links occasionally pop off the cable:

The cable is attached by inserting it in the back and then pinching it tight with those little round hex screws on the sides. But I can't seem to get enough force on the screws. Could I maybe put something on the end of the screws, where they contact the cable, to make them grip the cable better? Please let me know if anyone has a suggestion.

I have the external shift Box type, Myself.

Bene Sugg: Hold the piece You show with a pair of pliers with 1 hand ,

Then tighten the set screw with the Other hand?
