Holy crap! My first ride with Chain-L

I never knew a chain could be so quiet and smooth. I saw it mentioned in a couple of threads and went ahead and ordered some. Glad I did.

When I first used it, I instantly saw:
15% increase in horsepower.......
3.2 second lower ET in the quarter mile.......
18mph higher top end speed..........

and..............

23% better fuel economy !!

(Right out of a 1960's J.C. Whitney catalog....)

ps..I really DO use and like the stuff

When I apply Chain-L, my chain becomes completely silent. I only need to reapply it once every month or two, even during the rainy season.

But wait..........you buy the first bottle in the next 60 minutes, I'll give you the second absolutely free.

Just pay $29.95 in shipping and handling fees per bottle.
Of which you will be obscurely charged to the credit card supplied. If you don't agree with these terms, click this box:

A fresh chain, straight out of the bag, is smooth and silent.
A freshly cleaned chain, lubed with <INSERT PRODUCT HERE> is smooth and silent.

Every product works well enough out of the bottle. The only difference is how well for how long. I like the Muc Off Hydrophobic Team Sky edition. Lasts bout 500 miles between applications, smells nice. Is it the end all and be all of chain lubes? <shrug>

I experienced the same thing. My Wabi fixie is scary quiet. All one hears is the hiss of the tires rolling on the pavement; other than that there is no mechanical sound. The black stuff that collects on the chain I'll have to get over but heck, my new chain collected that black stuff anyway. Time will tell but there is no doubt that it cuts way down on friction otherwise a chain would not go silent like that, and mine is a relatively new chain with less than 500 miles on it...so it was already pretty quiet.

I liked it so much I bought another bottle the day after I received the first bottle. The second bottle did NOT come with the Popeil's Pocket Fisherman™ as advertised though...I'm really bummed.

Its longevity is possibly my favorite feature. In summer I can go for weeks, even a couple months depending, so I can generally lube more or less whenever I feel like lubing, so long as I feel like it once every month or so. And even when I decide the chain is getting dry, it always seems like I can sneak in "just one more ride" before putting on new lube.

I did get some outside rust a few times during this past winter. I do try to wipe the outside as dry as I can after lubing, and maybe that led to the rust. Not really sure. Winter is always harsh on drive trains.

+1.

Well, another difference is cleanliness.

But I also use Chain-L, and enjoy the same benefits.

Last Sat I was on an all-day bike ride with my wife & son and some friends (an annual event). My son was riding his road bike which I had gotten him off CL, and had not lubed yet (didn't need to initially). Well I wish I had checked before we left, because that chain was screaming bloody murder the whole ride, and I didn't have the foresight to bring lube with me on the ride (I did bring a small bottle of non-chain-L the previous year, because with 10-15 casual riders, there's a good chance somebody will need it).

I never got this, my chain never makes noise (unless it's REALLY lacking lube, then it'll squeak.) What makes noise for me is the jockey wheel and pulley. When those get gummed up and need lubing the chain will make a rhythmic "helicopter noise" which I've been told is "normal." I just lube those every week and don't really worry about it.

On my IGH bike I lubed the chain maybe two or three times in its lifetime before it stretched enough for me to want to replace it. It never made a noise. I only noticed it when I'd have to readjust chain tension because of stretch. At that point I'd clean and lube it again, but that only happened twice. That's one of the things I love about that bike. It's silent, even with a dirty chain.

I agree, if it's lubed properly it shouldn't make any noise regardless of the lube being used, even crappy drip wax lubes will silence a chain for about 60 miles or so. I use Rock & Roll lube and it stays silent and clean for many miles. But regardless what lube I would use, even Chain L which I have tried, I still clean the chain about every 250 to 300 miles because no lube will keep dirt and metal grit from damaging the chain and gears, and the longer the lube is kept on the dirtier it will get and the more it will grind away at your stuff.

I'll throw in my 2 cents in support of Chain-L. My commuter is an old Columbia 3 speed that I overhauled the hub and replaced the cog and chain last March 1st. After wiping off the gunge the first few days after lubing, the new chain has stayed clean and smooth. Just wiped down and reapplied today, after a ride in some drizzle. I have ridden in rain in between, no problem. It has only been about 300 miles since the first application, but I figure, 2 months in Indianapolis is probably due for freshening. And- Francis is a good guy, I'm glad to buy his elixir.

I have lubed the hub with Dexron II ATF. The pawls are a little noisy... might have been better to use Chain-L for the SRF-3 innards.
Chain lube threads usually wind up in P&R, nice to find a civil one here in mechanics.
