Looking for a rigid suspension replacement fork

I have a +/-2005 Gary Fisher Nirvana with a very low level non-adjustable suspension fork. I want to replace it with a rigid fork with braze-ons to attach a front rack for touring. It needs to be 465-470mm axel to crown race. (The wheels are 700c.) My LBS went through a few of their suppliers without success. They will keep trying but in the meantime I told them I'd check here for your suggestions for a source.

I prefer steel but could live with aluminum. I'm not comfortable with carbon with the stress of a rack and pannier.

Thank you for your input.

Sounds like you need an 80mm suspension corrected fork. Surly ECR would work. It is meant for touring and has eyelets for a standard rack, or for Salsa "Anything" cages. It also has crown eyelets, so it is meant to be extremely versatile. It is also heavy, although probably not much different than what you already have.

You don't specify if you need canti studs or disk mounts; the ECR only has disk mounts. The Surly Ogre fork should work if you need canti studs.

Many shops should be able to order through QBP.

When I look up the Nirvana, it's unclear to me what type of fork is on the bike. Is it a threaded or threadless fork?

Maybe the Surly Ogre?

Aggiegrads and techsensei, thank you for your responses. I will need canti studs and the fork is threadless.

Quick follow up... The bike is actually a 2004 and has a RockShox Metro fork.

As long as it is a 1 1/8 (28.6mm) fork, Surly makes forks that fit the bill, easily. If your shop can't order from QBP, they must be some fly-by-night organization...

I deal with Bike Line so definitely not fly by night. I'll talk with them regarding the Surly forks and QBP. As I said, they were going to continue checking. Thank you.

The Surly Ogre meets your specs, including a 468mm length.
