chains on fat bikes different from other chains
Just a question are the chains on Fat bikes different to regular ones on MTB.
I had my fat bike since November, and noticed the chain wear is already at 75%, then again i rode in winter in -25c temperatures and now into summer
is it normal to see the chain wear this fast, being less then 12 months old. thanks?

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter
The chains are the same, but the riding conditions different. Winter riding is especially hard on chains. There's spray coming off the front wheel, and depending on where you ride, salt. Both can overpower any oil on the chain and the salt adds a corrosive element to the normal wear.
However, as pointed out above, use a 12" ruler to get a more accurate measurement, since chain gauges are notorious for reading high.

I have 2,000 miles on my Pugsley's chain, no issues. I ride temps below -10F, winter roads with salt, as well as summer riding on the single-track trails and I did a gravel century on this chain too.
So, I'd say fatbike chains are not 'different', but the conditions we use them in ... that's likely different than most bike. For example:
BTW - tech question, does this image display for other BF users?

Edit, afterthought: my riding buddy, that takes winter riding to colder/harsher places than me, has issues with his lungs in the cold and has a mask. He has the https://coldavenger.com/ - this guy rides things like the Arrowhead 135

Hypno, After a long absence, I've been back on my bike for about two months. I'm already thinking about what I can do to replace my cycling during the winter months. See, down here in Atlanta, it can routinely get down into the +40s and +30s (F) in January and February with occasional dips as low as the teens and single digits. Your winter riding conditions has inspired me to suck it up and ride. Thanks.
