who sells bmx axel hubs?

who sells bmx axel hubs and how do you tell if they will fit a Mongoose 20" wheel. both the front and rear wheel axel hubs are missing on my wheels. apparently newer bike have a different style hub?
i have contacted 4 bike shops in my area and none of them stock them or where very helpful. i haven't found any on line and the Mongoose company is impossible to contact about older bike parts.
i'm guessing there is not much demand for them.

The Mongoose name has been used on a whole bunch of different bikes over the years, with a bunch of different wheels. They were classic American BMX bikes in the 1970s and '80s. The MotoMag wheel was their original product if I remember correctly. This old Mongoose stuff can be desirable, but the company that made it is long gone. Later, the Mongoose name was sold off and used on department store bikes. Over the years, there have been so many different models from completely different companies, so it's impossible to tell what you need from the info you provided. Pics would be helpful.

The terminology you're using is also a bit confusing. What do you mean by "axle hub"? Do you just need an axle? Cups, cones, and balls? If your bike was missing its hubs, you'd just have rims with dangling spokes that aren't attached to anything at the center of the wheel.

I'm thinking that the parts should be fairly easy to source but you have to be specific about what you are looking for.

Gordy's Bike shop in Phoenix is a BMX specialty shop. Quite an impressive store BTW. I'd check with them.

...but since all those parts are missing, replacement wheels may be cheaper and easier to source.

Off topic a bit...is the lacing pattern on those wheels jacked or is it because of the angle the picture is taken, they look like a mix of crossing patterns?

I think it's just because they have 48 spokes. It looks "busier" than a regular wheel.

What I want to know is, why are there reflectors on "motocross" wheels?

I'm thinking the "axle sets" will be easy to find. He's also, however, going to need the dust covers sized to press fit into the hubs. I've never had any luck finding those.

One can make dust covers from a suitable washer secured to the hub with silicone seal to make up for any size discrepancy.

Way back in the 90's, we used to get the hollow axles from road bikes and then cut them down to fit. For some reason we thought they would be so much lighter.
Now days I suppose they are all different sizes?

Thanks for the input everyone. I was able, through trial and error, to find and install two old axel hubs. There is no play in either axel and both wheels spin nice and smooth. So they should be fine now.
