New carbon rigid fork for old mtb ?

Any suggestions on a lower cost carbon fork for a vintage mountain bike conversion ? I think I'm going to stay away from an eBay shipped from China fork. Maybe Nashbar? I haven't measured yet but I think it's a 1 1/8 threaded. Could I use a road fork and convert to a theeadless? I also think I don't want tapered right? I imagine I'll need spacers to bring the geometry closer to what it was. I'd like to stay under 100$ btw, the bike is about 1997 iron horse mt500

I'm watching a Nashbar fork in eBay for 100$ now. There are other Nashbars around 125$

The '97 shoulda come with threadless action.

If current setup is threaded, I'd probably just grab a new headset and stem along with the fork if I were you.

Ok thanks. I wasn't sure if it was threaded.

Bikepedia says it came with a Manitou Pro, which I think is approx 80mm travel, so you'll probably want about 425mm-440mm axle-to-crown
