Nitto Stem Size Queries!

Hi: Just curious what angle the stem in the below picture is. Is it -17? Also, I've measured approximately 95mm, but only seem to find 90 or 100mm stems about. I just purchased an ITM 100mm (also shown below) and it really is an altogether different thing. First time actually considering such things, so bear with me folks! Regards.

Print this on a piece of paper and lay the stem on top of it.

Just as with many bike aspects the answer is depends... Stem extension angles are usually be measured from the quill. But can be from the perpendicular or as a complete angle WRT the quill shaft. So a +17* can also be a 73*.

As far as the reach/extension length take care here too. Measuring from bar center to quill center is most common. But some (often people who don't know the subtly of bike dimensions. If the extension is measured along the top of the stem (not center of) the dimension will be 5-8mm longer then the "real" size. At one time early MtB stems were measured, extension wise, at a perpendicular to the quill regardless of whether this ran along the extension or not.

I would call both stems pictured about 73* and likely around 80-100mm long. Andy
