tire wobble
i just found out that this happens on a new tire that I installed.
I've tried deflating it, reinstalling it, deflating it again, rince/repeat, and the wobble won't go away. There's a rubber line that goes right outside the bead, around the tire, that allows me to align the tire with the rim, and the alignment is decent. do have a defective tire? can i get it replaced? i put another one on, of the same model, and there's still a slight wobble, although not as bad as this one. this has never really been an issue for me

Most tires I've tried have a tiny bit of wobble and hop, even when the rims are true. I don't feel it while riding and I'm not fast enough to worry about any loss of efficiency.
The only time I fussed and fretted over visible wobble and hop was with a set of Specialized Hemisphere tires, which fit so loosely on the rims of both bikes I worried about the bead being set perfectly. I had a blowout last year when I neglected to set the bead before fully inflating and the tube sneaked out and burst a little while later. Fortunately that happened inside, not while riding. Good tires otherwise but I couldn't relax while riding, worrying about the bead, so I replaced 'em.

so i'm stuck with the hop? that sucks. I swear I don't get this on my race bike with continental gp's.

Appears to be fairly common for less than high echelon tires. Mine usually settle down after a few rides by varying tire pressures. Can you actually feel that slight wobble when riding? I don't usually feel it unless extreme.

this is a shade of grey WRT a fault. Yes, tires can be less variable in roundness, either from seating or above the bead consistency. But tires are not perfect.
So first question is "do you feel any hop or wiggle when riding"? If not then you don't have a problem.
If so then who mounted the tire? If you your options are less. If a shop did it then you could bring it and your wheel back and ask them to look at it. (Yes, I know that the OP mounted the tire, just making a point that when other then the seller does the work there is a loss of some amount of recourse).
I would bring the tire and wheel back to who sold you the tire (and I hope you did buy from a LBS) and ask them to look at it. If this came into our shop I'd be a bit questioning but would remove and remount the tire on the spot. If anything to show the customer that all was correctly mounted. I could also show the customer tires on bikes at hand with similar lumpiness.
I have never seen any published specs on what is acceptable, or rejectable, out of round. It always is a judgment call. And often judgment calls are somewhat dependent on the relationship, either past or hoped for future. Andy.

Yah it does look crappy. I would get the hop away from the valve and rim joint. Try riding it a some. I actually used to tighten the spokes to round it better, but those wheels always needed truing for some reason.
Plus one of those rims has a 1mm flat spot now, that I def can feel on a smooth road. Schwalbe tires for the win for me the last 5 years.
