Dia Compe ENE/Silver Shifter inner assembly
I thought I'd post this in case anyone needs the info in the future.
Pulling an ENE shifter off the other day, the backing plate popped open and the spring and ratchet fell out. I found someone's blog with a photo of all the parts and lettered with the order of re-assembly.
That was very helpful. I did, however, eventually lose the spring on the garage floor somewhere. I did find it once after it popped out of my tweezers, but the 2nd time no go. Those things are so tiny that they become transparent on a garage floor.
I did get my shifter working again by putting a small piece of firm foam in place of the spring. I cut it from one of those swimming pool floatation sticks. The shifter works perfectly with it in place!
NOTE: This photo doesn't show the parts laid out in order, follow the letters for proper assembly. Part C is "upside down" as far as how it should go into the lever. Part G, the ratchet cog, has L and R on each side. Have the letter for the corresponding shift lever facing out/toward you as you assemble.
