long cage derailleur and Tacx Flux trainer
Hi,
I am trying to use my XC MTB on the new Tacx Flux. As they also mention on their website: "FLUX is not suitable for a long cage rear derailleur". However I did not know that and I bought one. Of course, the derailleur is hitting the leg.
As a workaround I would like to use, just for the period of time my bike is on the trainer, a longer chain. I am using a 2 x 10 speed transmission. The rear derailleur is a Shimano XT Shadow 10s (not +). Which chain do I need to try?
Thank You

Any 10 speed chain will work (aside from perhaps the narrow Campagnolo 10 speed chains). Get one with a quick link (KMC, SRAM, Wipperman) or if you want a Shimano chain purchase some quick links separately. I've used KMC and SRAM links with Shimano 10 speed chains without issue.

Looks like the base is the issue, https://tacx.com/product/flux-smart/ is my guess..
you may not have had that issue with the LeMonde trainer, that same use instead of the rear wheel functionality. different base design..
maybe get a cheap bike and leave it on the trainer stand. ?
just changing the chain ? Quick link types, so you can leave the same chain with the trainer, since it's wear, will impart wear on the casette, is probably OK.

MTB bikes use most of a chain so a new chain will only be a few links longer. I agree with joejack, just add some links with two quick links. When you are done, you can just take the extra links out and rejoin the chain with the quick link. Your LBS may sell bulk chain so you don't even have to take the links out of a new chain.

shorter chain . will pull the tension pully forward. and make clearance, you cannot shift out of a more limited number of gears though.
