replacing derailleur?

Hey all

Here's my story:
While riding my bicycle through random bushland I noticed my rear derailleur suddenly fell apart. This, in effect, completely cut my derailleur out of the driveline. I managed to recover the small gear that started at the end of the derailleur arm, and was just wondering whether it would be possible to somehow get it back in there, or whether i have to replace the derailleur completely. If I had to replace it, how would i do so?

Yep, the pulleys are no problem; you can probably get some for free from your LBS old-parts bin. But be sure nothing is bent or twisted; the "cage" that holds the pulleys might have been tweaked, and will cause no end of shifting problems.

I don't think anything is bent or twisted (a good start?) but I seem to be missing half of the cage. Are there supposed to be two sides?

Yes. Maybe the LBS has a solution for that as well.

If not, a new DR of decent quality is not very expensive.
