Pricing

I know pricing varies for maintenance depending on your bike but what's a reasonable price on a general maintenance check-up after a first purchase?

Bikes: 1982 Trek 930R Custom, '91 Diamondback Ascent w/ XT, XTR updates, Fuji Team Pro CF road flyer, Specialized Sirrus Gravel Convert, '09 Comencal Meta 5.5 XC, '02 Marin MBX500, '84 Gitane Criterium bike

new bike? SHOULD be free.... great time to correct what some flunky didn't.

I give 30 days warranty on used bikes... flat tires, bent axles, tacoed wheels from jumping, or smashed shifters stuffed with tree bark, not covered, of course... but i DO enjoy seeing such carnage!

Many shops allow 30-60 days checkup at no charge (check bolts are tight, shifting/braking, etc). If you are outside that window, and they told you at the time of purchase, well, you can throw yourself on their mercies, but be aware they are completely justified in denying free service.

Hell, I have personally denied free service in that period for a bicycle that was clearly abused (numerous broken spokes, flat tires, dented rims...); at the same time, I've done the complementary work even after the free period, for people who are apologetic/otherwise nice about it. Being pleasant with the service tech or writer can only help your case.

Otherwise, in a metropolitan area, figure $60-75USD per hour, and less in more rural areas. Most common packages (adjust everything, true wheels, etc.) take around 1 hour, so...

I know I'm nit-picking. but if you give your thread a better name more will read it. You at least said "pricing". Some people call threads "question" or so.
Better name would have been "typical pricing for first check-up after purchase". then anyone who has experience with that is more likely to even read your thread.

Sorry for the rant, but in recent weeks I noticed many threads have names that don't tell anything.

As was mentioned this should be free service from the shop you bought. but i don't see why you need a shop to fix it. If something is misaligned you want to return it asap and not wait 60 days.
i got two vouchers (worth $100 each :-) for free tune-ups. i call BS on that since no tune-up (with no actual brake bleeding etc.) should cost $100.

Here in San Jose, it is $125 to $150 per hour; and a 1 bedroom apartment rents for an average of $2442 per month.... https://www.rentjungle.com/average-r...e-rent-trends/
