Which is inner and outer cage

On a rear derailleur which is the inner cage and which is the outer cage? Unfortunately I can make a case for both. I bent the one that is closest to the spokes when installed. Thanks for your help.

Try to find an "exploded" view of your derailleur on the manufacturer's web site. Also, images help viewers here to have a better idea of your problem (hint!).

That would be the inner, it's the one that is threaded for the bolts.

Shimano? just buy a whole new RD, spare parts otherwise will be hard to find, (cost to distribute small parts is high)
Other than cannibalizing another of the same, found in a bin, say at the LBS,
but it may have suffered the same kind of damage...

It's a Sram Red 22. I saw on eBay a J&L carbon fiber inner. Anyone use J&L before?
