Breaking chain using the same pin?

Unlike the other companies, Campagnolo didn't switch to flush riveted chains until they moved to 10 cogs.

That's right, I have a Campagnolo maintenance manual from the late '90s, 9sp era. It specifies using Campagnolo chain pliers for installing/uninstalling the chain, but doesn't say anything about using new pins.

I thought when the 10 speed came out that Campagnolo had a special chain tool that could peen the pin with a flat plate that flipped over the end when driving the pin back into the chain.
