Though at that price, the plastic one you linked looks perfect. It works perfectly fine, I've used such plastic tool holders. One advantage of using wood is you can make the layout just the way you want it, though the plastic one has so many various sized holes it's not really an issue.
Indeed, and since I'm running out of space in two of the plastic organizers, I might just go with wood for the next one, so I can organize it exactly the way I want. The plastic ones have a lot of holes, but you end up not being able to use all of them.

I know it isn't elegant but you could go to a garage sale or goodwill and buy a chest of drawers. I have a small 3 drawer one I put on top of a board with castors on it.In the top drawer are brakes, the middle has chains and seat posts, and the bottom one has head and tail lights and reflectors. In another unit I built myself I have small shipping boxes from Amazon that I use as dividers. They come in all sizes. In my case I can get 6 into one drawer. I also picked up off the curb a plastic roll around 3 tiered cart. On the top shelf I have a 3 drawer + top bin tool box I got at Harbour Freight. Finally, I have a number of Rubbermaid totes that I put stuff in. One has cable covers, one has misc brake levers, and one has misc. brackets. I also put nails in the open rafters of my flat roof garage where I hang wheels.

Indeed, I've been in a lot of garages where the workbench and cabinets are the old counters and cabinets from when they installed a new kitchen.

Simple and cheap (less than $50) solution for tool storage at the non profit shop I volunteer at.
